Comic books are all about incredible team-ups in jaw-dropping story crossovers as our heroes unite against a big bad. But every once in a while, the crossovers level up and bring together some of our all-time favorite universes! Whether it’s across time, across alternate dimensions or even across real-world companies, these team-ups always make fans excited to see what can happen when those different worlds collide.
In honor of the soon-to-release DC Versus Marvel Omnibus, a brand-new compilation of the legendary crossovers that brought together the greatest superheroes in pop culture, we’ve put together a list of some of the other memorable times DC superheroes joined forces with the heroes and anti-heroes of other Earths—often with epic results. Let’s cross over!
Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77
By Marc Andreyko, Jeff Parker, David Hahn and Karl Kesel
This is the crossover that would have shattered our Earth if it had played on our television screens! Batman ’66, portrayed by the charming Adam West, and Wonder Woman ’77, played by real-life wonder Lynda Carter, meet for the first time in the 2017 limited series Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77. The two stars of the classic TV series join forces when the devious Ra’s al Ghul puts a longtime plan into motion.
When Talia al Ghul hires Catwoman to steal an ancient tome, Bruce recalls that very same book was once for sale at an auction hosted by his parents. As a Nazi agent tried to steal the relic, the young Bruce saw Wonder Woman leap into action firsthand. Bruce ran away from the clutches of a nefarious Nazi and fell into a dark cavern on the grounds of Wayne Manor. You only think you know how the story goes from there…
Batman/Judge Dredd
By John Wagner, Alan Grant, Simon Bisley, Glenn Fabry, Val Semeiks, Cam Kennedy and more
This might be the oldest crossover on this list, but this crimefighting team-up still packs a huge punch. In the 1990s, Batman and Judge Dredd squared off against some of the most sinister villains in both of their universes. The Batman/Judge Dredd Collection gathers their stories in one electrifying volume. And just look at that cover art by Mike Mignola!
Atmospheric, violent and gruesome, their crossover begins in Judgment on Gotham as Batman finds himself transported to Dredd’s dystopian version of the future. In Mega-City One, he crosses paths with the merciless Judge Dredd and their meeting isn’t an amiable one. (Batman is a lawbreaker, after all.) But with Judge Anderson’s help, Batman returns to Gotham—with Dredd hot on his trail—to stop a rampaging Judge Death. Dredd and Batman would go on to team up a few times more, usually exchanging a few punches first.
Justice League/Power Rangers
By Tom Taylor and Stephen Byrne
In this imaginative 2017 crossover, two very different super teams make an unlikely pair with everything on the line. Justice League/Power Rangers begins when the Black Ranger, Zack, is accidentally teleported into the DC Universe. It’s not long before he runs into Batman and mistakes him for one of Zedd’s henchmen. When the rest of the Rangers arrive shortly after, Billy realizes they’re not on their world anymore. After more misunderstanding—Zords are involved, it’s a whole thing—the two teams discover they have more in common than they first thought.
If humor, giant monsters, colorful bursts of energy, Brainiac-controlled Zords and your favorite Justice Leaguers sound like the perfect combination for you, pick up the collected graphic novel now.
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong
By Brian Buccelatto and Christian Duce
Speaking of giant monsters and crossovers, it doesn’t get any bigger than last year’s Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong! While you might be expecting explosive action and rampaging kaiju—they’re in there, don’t worry—this crossover begins on a much more personal level for the Man of Steel. He’s ready to propose to Lois Lane, and his good friends have a little bit of advice and wisdom to share with him. But the big moment is interrupted by the arrival of a big monster: Godzilla!
And the King of the Monsters isn’t alone. Kaiju attack Central City, Themyscira and Gotham as the titans are unleashed on the DC Universe. It’s all hands on deck for the Justice League! But when Godzilla proves to be too much even for Superman, is their Earth doomed?
Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War
By Mike Johnson and Angel Hernandez
All I really need to say is, “Hal Jordan meets Captain Kirk!” and you’ll want to get your hands on 2015’s Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War at warp speed. The Lantern Corps and the U.S.S. Enterprise make so much sense together that this pairing is easily a match made in crossover heaven. (It’s a little harder to find than the others on this list—which are all available on DC UNIVERSE INFINITE—but trust me, it’s so worth it.)
On an unknown Earth, Nekron, the Black Lantern, is close to his goal of destroying all life. To escape him, Ganthet teleports to another universe with the last remaining Lantern rings. Elsewhere, on board the Federation starship Enterprise, the crew detects a rogue planet with unusual sensor readings. An away team beams down to the surface, where they discover Ganthet’s long-deceased corpse, as well as the rings—which are ready to choose new champions in this universe.
Hal Jordan, pulled into the same universe, tracks his missing friend to the Enterprise. But he’s not the only Lantern to make the trip…
If you like crossover comics like these ones, you’ll be excited to learn that this list is just the beginning! Why, Batman ’66 alone has crossed over with a number other properties (including one co-written by Kevin Smith). There’s also Batman/Spawn, the trilogy of Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and the now legendary DC Meets Looney Tunes! And be sure to pick up the DC Versus Marvel Omnibus, available in bookstores and comics shops on October 29, 2024.
